The permanent exhibition of the War Museum entitled: “Exhibition of relics of Military Medicine” was held with the assistance of the Scientific Union of Health Armed Forces (SUHAF) in 2017.
The purpose of the exhibition is the collection, recording, documentation, study and presentation of relics that refer to the history of Military Medicine of the Armed Forces three Services in Greece. The exhibition includes medical, pharmaceutical, dental, nursing and veterinary relics that testify to the history and activities of the Health Authority in Greece. The relics of the exhibition belong to the Collection of the War Museum, while part of them belong to the Collection of Vassilios Nikoltsos.
The idea of creating a “Museum of Military Medicine” had been expressed many times in the past, but, in the end, no effort was successful. When the Brig. General (ret.) Physician Christos Papagiannis took over the presidency of the EEAS, the effort for the establishment of a “Museum of Military Medicine” started dynamically again. An ardent supporter was the then HNDGS Chief General Michail Costarakos, who decided to allocate a hall of the Thessaloniki War Museum for the establishment of a Museum of Military Medicine.
The museological study and the curation of the exhibition was done by Colonel (ret.) Pharmacist Mr. Vassilios Nikoltsios.
