Dimitrios Kamberos, the Madman (Trelokamberos)
Revival of a flight with an ultralight seaplane in memory of the Artillery Lieutenant Dimitrios Kamperos, the first Greek Military Aviator (on the route Ormos Paleou Falirou – N. Hydra – Ormos Paleou
Falirou) for the first time after 109 years will take place on June 28. 2021, at 10:00, in collaboration with the War Museum, the Hellenic Seaplane Club, and the Historical Archive Museum of Hydra.
In the above context, in the afternoon of the same day, at 19:00, a presentation of the book “Dimitrios Kamberos, the Madman, The Life of the First Greek Military Aviator” will be held at the Historical Archive Museum of Hydra, by his niece, Antigoni Kamberos.
HISTORICAL DATA
The specific itinerary with A / F HENRI FARMAN 1912 “DEDALOS”,
a copy of which is kept in the War Museum, properly modified as a seaplane with the help of the Technical University of Athens professor Dimitrios Chondros, was made by Artillery Lieutenant Dimitrios Kamperos on 24 June 1912 (when upon his return on 25 June = 1912, he set the world record for seaplane speed with 110km/h covering the route Hydra – Faliro of 37.5 nautical miles in 38 minutes which he maintained for two months).
A Zenair CH701 seaplane of the Hellenic Sea Plane Club
will be used to revive the flight. The flight will depart on June 28 from Faliro Bay at 10:00 in the morning for the Port of Hydra. The course of the seaplane will be as follows: Faliro, Eastern End of Aegina, Poros Naval Station, Lemon Forest, Karapoliti, Cape Skyllaion, Hydra. Estimated arrival time in Hydra is 10:40.
Dimitrios Kamberos’ grandfather was originally from Hydra (fighter of 1821) and his brother, Notis Kamberos, was a contractor of the Olympiacos football team.
