“She sang Greece and the whole of Greece sang with her.”
Sofia Vembo, the so-called “singer of victory”, with her voice, temperament and brilliant performance inspired and encouraged all Greeks during the Second World War. In addition, she offered huge sums of money for the financial support of the country.
Katerina Petridou, a personal friend of the singer, dedicated her life to the collection of relics and personal memoirs of Sofia Vembo. Rare scores, gramophone records, theatrical costumes, casual dresses, jewelry, manuscripts, theatrical programs, anecdotal photographs, press clippings and many more items make up the unique collection in Greece, which is exhibited in a special room in the Branch of the War Museum in Thessaloniki.
