General Rules for visiting the War Museum and its Branches

  1. Since the safety of visitors, Museum staff, exhibits and buildings in general is paramount, please:
  • Leave any bulky object (including luggage) in the cloakroom at the entrance of the Museums.
  • Do not enter the Museums carrying objects dangerous to the safety of visitors and public health and safety.
  • Do not consume food or drink, except in the areas of the Museums designated for this purpose.
  • Do not enter with accompanying pets, with the exception of guide dogs accompanying people with disabilities.
  • Have your mobile phone on silent mode when browsing the Museum halls.
  1. Smoking and the use of electronic cigarettes is prohibited in all exhibition areas of the Museums.
  2. In the event that a minor is lost on the Museum premises, he/she will be taken by the staff to the Museum reception.
  3. Allowed:
  • Photographing exhibits with a portable camera without using flash.
  • Photographing and filming persons inside the Museums, provided that the character of the exhibits is not affected or offended and the proper functioning of the Museums is not impeded.
  1. Photography of exhibits bearing a relevant sign is not permitted.
  2. Photography with a camera on a tripod and filming or videography are allowed only with the permission of the Museum Directorate.

The following applies to all the Museums

Entrance to the War Museum and its Annexes is free to the public on the following dates:

  • On the first Sunday of every month, from 1 November to 31 March.
  • 28 October (National Day).
  • 21 November (Armed Forces Day).
  • 25 March (National Day).
  • 18 April (International Monuments Day).
  • 18 May (International Museum Day).
  • The last weekend of September each year (European Heritage Days).

They are entitled to a reduced fee:

  • Young people aged 18 or under from non-EU countries.
  • Students and students of Higher Educational Institutions, Military Schools or equivalent schools of non-EU countries with the demonstration of their student identity card.
  • Citizens of EU Member States over 65 years of age, upon presentation of their Identity Card or Passport or Driving Licence.
  • Parents accompanying parents on educational visits to primary schools in the EU Member States.
  • The family members of the personnel, whether military or civilian (military and civilian staff) of the Ministry of National Defence.
  • Accompanying teachers on educational visits to schools and institutions of primary, secondary and higher education in non-EU countries.
  • The personnel of the Security Corps (Greek Police, Fire Brigade and Coast Guard).
  • Participants in a group of visitors (by group we mean a number of visitors exceeding 10).

Free admission is granted to:

Young people up to the age of 18 from EU Member States on presentation of their identity card or passport.

  • Children up to the age of five from outside the EU.
  • Students and students of Higher Educational Institutions, Military Schools or equivalent schools of the EU member states with the demonstration of their renewed student identity card, student pass or international student identity card ISIC.
  • Accompanying teachers during educational visits to schools and institutions of primary, secondary and higher education and Military Schools of the EU Member States, as well as independent teachers with the demonstration of the free entry card or the valid OLME membership card.
  • Holders of a national unemployment card, upon presentation of their identity card and a valid unemployment certificate.
  • Persons with disabilities and one session thereof, the latter if the disabled person in question has a disability of 67% or more, regardless of their country of origin.
  • Parents of three-parent and large families of the Greek population, until the children reach the age of 25 or regardless of their age if they are disabled.
  • Those serving their military service, by showing their Armed Forces Identity Card.
  • The military and civilian staff of the Armed Forces (military and civilian staff)
  • The members of the Board of Directors of the “Friends of the War Museum”, for as long as their term of office on the Board lasts.
  • The donors and benefactors of the War Museum.
  • Holders of a special membership card of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), upon presentation of the card.
  • Domestic guides with the demonstration of their professional identity card.
  • Free Admission Card holders together with a session.

The Museum may, at its discretion, decide to temporarily close individual rooms of the Museum, without this giving the visitor the right to claim a partial or full refund of the value of his/her ticket.
