Chairman and CEO of MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals

Evangelos Mytilineos is Chairman and CEO of MYTILINEOS-Energy & Metals, one of Greece’s leading industrial and energy companies. With more than 6,500 direct and indirect employees and a strong presence on all five continents, the company has a consolidated turnover of €5,492 million and an EBITDA of €1,014 million in 2023.

Born in Athens, Evangelos Mytilineos is a graduate of the Economics Department of the Law School of the University of Athens, holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, while in 2019 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Business Administration of the University of Piraeus.

In 1978, Evangelos Mytilineos took over the family business, which was founded in 1908 and represented manufacturers of metal and steel products. In 1990, he founded the MYTILINEOS Group. Through strategic decisions, he expanded the Group’s activities, acquiring a majority stake in the listed construction company METKA, as well as in Aluminion of Greece, the largest vertically integrated alumina and aluminium production and trading unit in the European Union. Following the recent acquisition of IMERYS BAUXITES GREECE by MYTILINEOS, it is the largest bauxite producer in Europe. In 1995, the company was listed on the Athens Stock Exchange, and in the early 2000s, the company entered the energy sector with Protergia, which is now its flagship company.

Evangelos Mytilineos led the corporate transformation of MYTILINEOS into a “green” company that creates long-term value for its shareholders, with activities in Green Metallurgy and Sustainable Energy. Moreover, MYTILINEOS paved the way for the liberalization of the natural gas market in Greece, as it was the first private company to enter the gas supply and trading business in the country, ensuring its customers a secure and competitive supply of natural gas. In addition, Evangelos Mytilineos created the second largest energy producer and provider after PPC in Greece. By leveraging the vertical integration of the company’s energy operations, it has created the most integrated energy company, leading the energy transition. Indeed, its Renewable Energy portfolio now reaches 14 GW in Greece and internationally, while the company is implementing significant investments in this direction, exceeding €1 billion.

As a pioneer in corporate governance, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and innovation, with optimal results in terms of cost, safety and quality of operations, Evangelos Mytilineos has laid the foundations for a 100% sustainable and “green” industrial activity. Thus, in 2021 it announced a 30% reduction in emissions for all of its business by 2030 compared to 2019 and a carbon neutral footprint by 2050, making MYTILINEOS one of the first companies in Europe and one of the first industries worldwide to embrace ambitious sustainable development targets as part of its business. In 2022 Evangelos Mytilineos, transforming the company into MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals, set the energy transition and digital transformation as the main focus of the new strategy, with sustainable development and the circular economy as the pillars, aiming to further create value and continuous growth.

Evangelos Mytilineos is the elected President of the Pan-European Association Eurometaux, which represents non-ferrous metal industries in Europe, whose members have 500 thousand direct and 3 million indirect employees and an annual turnover of 120 billion Euros, as well as Vice President of SEV, which represents 400 of the largest companies in Greece.
