The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Greece to the United Kingdom, Mr. Ioannis Tsaousis and delegations of the Boards of Trustees of both Museums.
The purpose of the Memorandum is the cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experience between the cooperating museums in the following areas:
- – Organisation of joint exhibitions and exhibit exchanges.
- – Strengthening museum and cultural research.
- – Development of educational programmes and training provision
- – Exchange of museum know-how and best practices in museum management.
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Mr.Dendias said:
“With Agenda 2030 I have said that everything is changing in the Greek Armed Forces. And everything means everything. It includes something we are very proud of: Our war museums, and especially the War Museum in Athens.
So in this effort, in the effort to have a new approach to our history, of which we are very proud, today a new agreement was signed between the President of the War Museum, Mr. Imperial War Museum in London, Mrs Caro Howell, a Memorandum of Understanding, following my own previous visit here.
With this effort the Imperial War Museum will give us expertise and allow us to present our exhibits and our history in a new way, so that they will have an even greater appeal, especially to the new generation of Greeks.
It is a first step in a completely new approach. There is a second step. We will try to create a Greek presence in Rimini, in Italy and in general to be able to show our history, of which we are proud, to the new generation of Greeks, but also to the new generation of Europeans.”
