The War Museum inaugurated a new exhibition entitled “Journey to Freedom, 1821”, created by the Captain Vassilis and Carmen Konstantakopoulos Foundation, TEMES S.A. – Costa Navarino Development Agency – in collaboration with the Eugenides Foundation, in a specially designed space on the first floor of the Museum.

In the beautifully designed space, physical and digital 3D exhibits of the Morias 21 project and the NAYS project are on display, as well as original content from the collections of the Costa Navarino and the General State Archives.

The exhibits give visitors the opportunity to experience the important moments of the Greek Revolution, but also to understand the cleansing role that the Peloponnese played in its outcome.

During the inauguration event, the President of the War Museum, Vice Admiral (I) Konstantinos Karamesinis said:

“It is with great honour and pleasure that I welcome our new action “Journey to Freedom 1821″, on the theme of the Greek Revolution in the Peloponnese.

The exhibition refers to the reflection and acquaintance of modern Hellenism with our glorious historical past. An initiative that renews our image and redefines and utilizes the possibilities of digital technology, to highlight the nation’s decisive struggle for liberation from the Ottoman yoke. It constitutes a mosaic of effective synergies, vision, extroversion and a common goal. The collective character of the action is determined by its individual supporters, with Mr. Achilleas Konstantakopoulos and Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis Eugenides, who with their contribution bridged the events of our history in a unique way, bringing them one step closer to today.

The War Museum, with its long-standing collecting and research activities, will henceforth present the digital historical narrative of the era, conveying to everyone the message of the revolution and the unshakeable constant which is none other than the fighting spirit of the Greeks for freedom, and proves the unbroken continuity and unity of the Greek nation from antiquity to the present day.”

The exhibition is part of the Museum’s exhibition sections and will be accessible during the Museum’s opening hours.
