The recent cooperation between the “Cultural Body of the Armed Forces” and this emblematic “Educational Organization” was a particular success – beyond all expectations – with the massive participation of the College Community and many of its friends.
Focus: the War Museum’s action ‘The MUSEUM goes to School’, aiming at the acquisition of knowledge and education and especially the cultivation of skills, through an original collaborative group teaching method.
The cooperation of the two institutions was part of the Volunteer Day, but also of the charity “Christmas Bazaar” of the Athens College, with the War Museum’s relics exhibition being combined with interesting parallel virtual reality activities.
And it was literally unprecedented for young and old alike:
- perform a free-fall parachute jump from a helicopter using a virtual reality mask
- participate in a pedagogical and innovative game of deciphering World War II Military Messages, using a 1940s communications code
- at the same time – in the framework of the two-day Bazaar – they had the opportunity to admire the unique exhibits of the War Museum, which was visited by more than a thousand people during these two days.
It was an unprecedented “Programme-Action” that delighted students and parents alike. The President of the War Museum Anastasios Liaskos and the Director/President of the Athens College Spyros Pollalis expressed (during their tour of the Exhibition and their participation in the VR action of performing a jump) their absolute satisfaction and their unlimited gratitude to all the participants of this cooperation which at the same time “defined” for the students of the Athens College the development of critical thinking, but also the love for learning and the approach to research/historical projects.
