Particularly important for the War Museum and, by extension, for the Armed Forces, was the event during which the War Museum’s publication (Vergina Publications) “PERSONAL ARCHIVE OF THE CHIEF of the Hellenic Army, General Napoleon Zerva (period 1942-1944)” was presented.
Common finding/assessment of the speakers:
- The present edition brings to light some new information on a period that is often in the news and of interest to both the scientific community and the lay reader, while at the same time pointing out that a critical approach is always required to any raw information provided by a document.
- In the same vein was the reference of the speakers to the targeted initiatives and actions of three and a half years of the President of the War Museum and the members of its Board of Directors, resulting in the War Museum being characterized by significant extroversion, “winning” the interest of the public and at the same time being the main “CULTURAL FORCE of the Armed Forces”.
- The intervention of Theophanis Vlachos, historian of the War Museum (curator of the publication together with the historian Ioannis Athanasopoulos), who emphasized that the publications of archival collections are very important for every historical researcher, because they offer the necessary primary material for the scientific approach of an event…and adding that without references to historical sources, the author can be accused of writing as a product of fiction.
On the panel of the presentation of the publication were:
- Adonis Georgiades: Minister of Labour and Social Security.
- Angelos Syrigos: Member of the Parliament of Athens, former Deputy Minister and Associate Professor of International Law and Foreign Policy at Panteion University.
The discussion was moderated by the journalist Lambros Kalarritis.
They also spoke:
- Dimitrios Skarvelis: General (retired). Dimitrios Sarkvelev, General of the Armed Forces of Greece, Honorary Chief of the General Staff and Member of the Athens Academy.
- Anastasios Liaskos: former Deputy Minister – Member of Parliament – Chairman of the Board of the War Museum.
The event, in the crowded Amphitheatre of the War Museum, was attended -with the expression of favourable comments- by the representative of His Beatitude Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Archimandrite Fr. Gavriel Christopoulos, the former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the former President of the Greek Parliament Georgios Sourlas, the deputies Nikitas Kaklamanis, Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos (former Minister of National Defence), Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the leadership of the Armed Forces, headed by the Chief of the Armed Forces General Konstantinos Floros, the Chief of the Coast Guard Vice Admiral Georgios Alexandrakis, the former Deputy Minister of Defence Alkiviadis Stephanis, the former MP Konstantinos Gioulekas, the members of the Board of Directors of the War Museum, Senior and Senior active and retired Officers and many friends of the War Museum.
